South Dakota Foundation for Medical Care (SDFMC) has announced the promotion of Nancy McDonald, BSN, RN, CPHQ to the position of vice president. In this new capacity, McDonald will be responsible for overseeing all SDFMC projects and operations.
SDFMC CEO Jay Lewis, MBA, shared, “SDFMC is very pleased to have Nancy McDonald in the role of vice president. Our organization has experienced tremendous growth over the past few years and her leadership within the organization has contributed greatly to our expansion.”
For just over a decade, McDonald served SDFMC in different capacities. Most recently as the director of quality improvement, where she oversaw a team of program managers and project deliverables. She began as a program manager working with health associated infections. She also supports the Partnership to Advance Tribal Health (PATH) project, which assists Indian Health Service hospitals with quality improvement efforts.

“I am humbled and honored to serve as the vice president of SDFMC and am committed to furthering the company’s mission of creating a strong foundation for quality health in South Dakota. I look forward to contributing to our continued growth and success in this new capacity,” said McDonald.
Working within SDFMC offers endless rewards. McDonald specifically emphasized the value of “collaborating with a multitude of healthcare professionals and community partners across our state to achieve excellence in health outcomes.”
McDonald holds a Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing from South Dakota State University. She is a certified professional in healthcare quality (CPHQ). Furthermore, McDonald is a member of the SD Association of Healthcare Quality and has severed in different positions over the years including president, secretary, and treasurer.
She remarked, “I am most inspired by the spirit of collaboration that permeates every corner of our organization. It’s through the combined efforts of our talented staff that we are making a difference with the work that we do. From small contracts to the large, we treat them all the same – with passion and confidence.”
