“Sharing the available resources and opportunities to utilize these resources within infection control education and trainings at the local level within South Dakota serves as an opportunity to help to reduce the risk of healthcare associated infections,” said Jess Danko, MSHA, RRT, LTC-CIP, program director for the South Dakota Foundation for Medical Care (SDFMC).

The Train the Trainer series gives an overview of the tools and resources available from Project Firstline (PFL) and teaches attendees how to adapt these tools to fit their healthcare training and educational needs. These tools are ready to use and free, which saves the infection preventionist time when forming their infection prevention educational plan.

“Critical access hospitals often need employees to play multiple roles. This makes the need for focused infection prevention training and education critical. SD Project Firstline can help streamline the process with training tools that are adaptable, quick, and easy to use in your infection prevention program,” explained Rebecca Sime, RN, SDFMC program manager and PFL project lead.

Recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for innovative training methods, the SD PFL team created an interactive Scavenger Hunt to add to the existing online training toolkits, educational videos, Micro Learns and other infection prevention resources. The COMPASS Project Firstline poster provides an overview of the collection of tools.
